Hidden behind Flat Iron’s newly relocated Sheung Wan location, a new British craft beer pub is coming to the area with HKD10 pints every Thursday.

The Powder Monkey, in partnership with British craft beer makers Powder Monkey Brewing Co., is arriving with a taste of Britain, expect funky pale ales, West Coast ales, and wheat beers with fish and chips and sausage and mash.

The cheap weekly Thursday drinks deal pairs well with the screening of live Premier League matches mid-week and on the weeknights, once the pub is expected to open publicly later in the summer.

The pub is set to open daily from 12PM to 12AM.

Since its opening in Hong Kong in 2015, Hong Kongers have fallen head over heels for Lady M’s signature mille crêpes cakes in a multitude of flavours, from green tea and Earl Grey to the recently launched Dubai chocolate.

One iconic flavour that’s been missing from the pack is pandan, a bestseller at Lady M’s shops in Singapore. That’s all about to change now that the global dessert boutique has brought the Lion City’s signature pandan mille crêpes to Hong Kong.

The rightful star of the show is the pandan kayak mille crêpes (HKD78/slice; from HKD510/whole cake), featuring 20 delicate crêpes layered with pandan cream and coconut-flavoured kaya custard.

Exclusive to Hong Kong and Macau is the newly unveiled pandan mango shortcake (HKD68/slice; from HKD480/whole cake), which combines two of our favourite Southeast Asian flavours in one tropical, aromatic sponge cake.

These pandan treats will only be available at Lady M Hong Kong for a limited time, so get ‘em while you can!

Barkada is open again in Soho, launching their 2.0 version with a menu featuring unique fusion flavours.

After announcing their closure on May 14, the Filipino restaurant returns to the area, located a few streets up the hill on Elgin Street.

Founder Jen Balisi is refreshing her first restaurant concept with a “Filipino heart, New York edge” take for its new smaller, yet cosier 20-seat space, including a section for Pinoy Pizzas, an ode to Jen’s tenure in the Big Apple. Think Filipino flavours meeting charred New York-style rippable pizzas.

Signatures on the menu include spicy funky coconut noodles (HKD148), kare-kare (HKD88), adobo birra quesotacos (HKD88), and siomai (HKD58).

“We were gutted when we had to close our doors, but the outpouring of love from our ‘barkada’ was incredible. This new space is everything we’ve wanted – intimate, edgy, and all about the food. It’s a return to our street food soul, with a bit of a New York swagger. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back,” Jen Balisi shared in a press release.

Barkada is currently offering 15% off all menu items and a bring-your-own-bottle policy till Jul. 15 during their soft opening.

Leela’s new Royal Experience tasting menu explores the recipes of ancient India https://www.afoodieworld.com/blog/2025/07/02/leelaa-royal-experience-menu/ Tue, 01 Jul 2025 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.afoodieworld.com/?p=95496 Leela chef-founder Manav Tuli has designed an exquisite multi-course tasting menu inspired by the ancient recipes of India’s past

Chef-founder Manav Tuli is always at the top of his game at Leela, and his newly introduced Royal Experience tasting menu at the Causeway Bay Indian restaurant is a fine display of the chef’s precision and ingenuity.

The new multi-dish tasting menu (HKD1,188 pp) is chef Manav’s homage to the culinary craftsmanship of India’s ancient dynasties and royal courts. To design the menu, the chef spent countless hours researching long-lost recipes from Persian manuscripts, Ayurvedic traditions, and historic documents.

Each dish tells a story of India’s past in a creative, modernised way. The menu kicks off with the tangy rasam fish-cheek soup, a recipe once developed by royal Ayurvedic physicians in ancient Madurai to treat an ill prince, and vataka crab and lentil cake, a warrior’s snack enjoyed during the Mauryan Empire.

Then come the likes of the Mughal dish shishranga murg, or six-colour chicken, adapted from the Persian cookbook Nuskha-e-Shahjahani, kola urandai lamb croquette favoured by Sangam soldiers and hunters, and qaliya Shirazi Persian lamb stew, a staple of Mughal royal court life.

This meticulously researched and executed tasting menu ends with the khaja pistachio cream crisps, also originating in the Mauryan era. An optional Saicho sparkling tea (+HKD260 pp) or wine (+HKD400 pp) pairing add-on is available.
