New restaurants in Hong Kong: July 2025
1. Solsot

In June, it was Thai restaurants that dominated our openings guide, and now this month, it’s Korea’s turn. Leading the pack is the first Hong Kong outpost of Korean chain Solsot, a hit for its iron-pot rice, aka bibimbap. The rice options showcase various proteins, including abalone, eel, sea bream, and pork, but it’s the brand’s steak pot rice that is the clear favourite, especially for its crispy, caramelised crust at the bottom of the pot. Solsot’s Central branch has a tentative opening date of Jul. 5.
Solsot, 10/F, FOCO, 46–48 Cochrane Street, Central
2. Golden Dragon

Golden Dragon in Tung Chung is an ideal dining contender for those longing for a taste of the Hong Kong of days gone by. This restaurant celebrates the golden era of local steakhouses with a nostalgic interior design and vintage-style menu. The sizzling New Zealand rib-eye steak (HKD218) with house-made black pepper sauce is the must-order here, along with the Black Cow (HKD42) blend of cola and vanilla ice cream to drink and the milk tea soufflé (HKD58), if you have room for dessert.

3. La Vache! The Peak

The newest branch of another steakhouse, this time French in style, has made its debut at The Peak, the fourth in Black Sheep Restaurants’ portfolio that undoubtedly offers the best views of the quartet. Traditional Parisian entrecôte steakhouse chain La Vache! is beloved for its delicious and reasonably priced steak frites; for only HKD398 per person, diners get trimmed entrecôte steak with a special house sauce, accompanied by baguette and butter, green salad, and (unlimited) French fries, which are piping hot, salted, and crisped to perfection.

4. WOWDON

WOWDON is a stellar addition to Kai Tak’s burgeoning F&B scene. The noodle hotspot is housed within the neighbourhood’s new SOGO department store and specialises in handmade hot and cold flat udon that is addictively chewy. The chilled wide udon and tempura platter (HKD128) is a popular choice, whilst we also rate the crispy pork chop with homemade curry udon (HKD138) for bolder, heartier flavours.

5. Rich Cow

Wan Chai’s latest hotpot hit is Rich Cow, focusing on (you guessed it) premium local beef. The team behind this opening were former employees of Central’s Big JJ Seafood Hotpot, so they know a thing or two about hotpot success stories. The chicken and fish maw (HKD298) is the go-to soup base here. In terms of dippers, the signature beef assortment (HKD348/HKD498) should be on your checklist too.

6. Canton House

Alongside Golden Dragon (see above), Canton House is a Chinese newcomer at Citygate Outlets in Tung Chung. Tradition and innovation go hand in hand on the modern Cantonese menus designed by veteran chef Andy Lau. The à-la-carte and dim sum menus are extensive, so here are a few recommendations that have already knocked diners’ socks off; go for the honey-glazed BBQ Ibérico pork (HKD188), signature roasted chicken with deep-fried garlic and chilli (HKD188/HKD298), and typhoon-shelter-style stir-fried mud crab (HKD498). If you’re dining at Canton House at lunchtime, the steamed colourful crystal dumpling (HKD68/4pcs) is a good choice, coming with four flavours: chicken and celery, pork and shrimp paste, spicy beef and onion, and shrimp and coriander.

7. Young Dabang

The next Korean wonder scheduled to debut in Hong Kong on Jun. 30 is Young Dabang, increasing New Town Plaza’s culinary prestige. This is Korea’s trendiest tteokbokki restaurant chain, famed for its massive 35cm-long rice cakes and more Korean comfort-food dishes. At the retro 80s-style Hong Kong outpost, Young Dabang’s irresistible signature offering is the customisable tteokbokki pot (from HKD248 for 2), brimming with fish cake, quail egg, fried dumpling, mixed veg, and instant ramen. Diners can also dig into K-food faves such as YDB chicken (from HKD213) in six signature flavours, sot bap (from HKD118) Korean-style claypot rice, and Umma’s mega gimbap (from HKD93).

8. Casa 218

Diners in Causeway Bay are already clamouring over Casa 218’s authentic Spanish eats. You’ll be spoilt for choice with the cosy, inviting eatery’s tapas selection, which includes wallet-friendly classics of Spanish potato omelette (HKD58), garlic shrimp (HKD128), and acorn-fed Ibérico ham (HKD138). The paella here is priced from just HKD138. We’ve also heard rave reviews about the Basque cheesecake (HKD68).

9. Big Pink Burgers Sai Kung

If you’re a burger fiend, we think it’s worth venturing to Sai Kung to check out Big Pink’s newest branch. The brand’s classic smash (HKD98) burger is flattened, crispy, salty excellence. The regional Oklahoma fried onion (HKD98) burger and patty melt (HKD98), a grilled white-bread cheeseburger-with-onion alternative that’s rare in Hong Kong, are two more favourites by this burger specialist.
Big Pink Burgers, G/F, 43 Sai Kung Hoi Pong Street, Sai Kung
10. Shoo Loong Kan

Now leading Causeway Bay in the Sichuan-style hotspot space is Shoo Loong Kan, a tried-and-true chain originating in Chongqing. We’re fans of the accommodating service, traditional Chinese decor, and – above all else – the genuine Sichuan soup bases and high-quality ingredients, the beef in particular. Be warned that the spice level of the classic spicy pot (HKD148) is Chongqing-legit.
Shoo Loong Kan, Shop A, 17/F, Lee Theatre Plaza, 99 Percival Street, Causeway Bay, 9071 1207
11. Gamtai

Gamtai is a great niche Korean option if you’re feeling adventurous, specialising in Hanwoo gopchang. And what is gopchang, you ask? It’s a delicacy made with the grilled small intestines of beef that’s recently spiked in popularity in the Land of the Morning Calm for its rich flavour and pleasantly chewy texture. Gamtai’s gopchang set (HKD280) is also packed with all sorts of grilled Hanwoo beef offal goodness, from the daechang (large intestines) to the heart.

12. Thai Pai Dong Central

Following its recent Bib Gourmand success in Jordan, hip Thai street-food eatery Thai Pai Dong has just launched its second location, this time moving to Hong Kong Island and setting up shop alongside the Central–Mid-Levels escalators of Soho. Diners here can expect the same great signature plates that are familiar to foodies in Jordan, including the star of this Thai show: the Wagyu beef boat noodles (HKD118). Post-9:30PM, the restaurant has plans to amp up the energy with plenty of alcohol, music, and dancing.

13. Sichuan Rouge

Teaming up to front glam new Sichuan restaurant Sichuan Rouge in Causeway Bay are two renowned chefs: Hu Taiqing, a master chef from Sichuan, and local chef Kenny Chan, who has been in the business for nearly six decades. More than 40 spices and herbs imported from Sichuan and Chongqing are utilised to craft a vast menu of appetisers, soups, hot dishes, rice and noodle plates, and desserts, all showcasing the wonderful diversity of Sichuan flavours in inventive recipe renditions. We especially can’t wait to try the mapo tofu with lobster and Sichuan-style boiled hand-cut beef!
